We arrived in Paris at the end of May on our journey to honor those who perished on the beaches of Normandy. We visited Monet’s home at Giverny; on to World War I; the Maginot Line, the Battle of the Bulge, and finally the Normandy Beaches. The highlight was the June 6, 2019 ceremony at the American Cemetery above Omaha Beach that honored the 135,000 men, with almost 10,000 deaths who engaged in a suicide mission to defeat Nazism.

Doc's Books 
I just requested that you friend me on Good Reads. Strawberry Bank was where I was introduced to American History when I was 5 or 6 years old!! My grandparents took my parents, my baby sister and me to visit New Hampshire and Maine. I believe Strawbery Banke property was just beginning to be purchased and restored in the very early 1960’s.
My parents moved to CT from OH in ’66. We started the tradition of vacationing in the NH-ME area every other summer. This lasted until 1975.
In 1976 I went to Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. I ended up as a History major with a concentration in the History of Science…specifically Medical History. I used to do a lot of research at Duke University Medical Library…they had M.A., PhD, and M.D.-PhD programs in the History of Medicine! I went home in 1980 (my Dad was transfered to Remington Arms in Ilion, NY), the Utica, NY area. That Fall I met my husband-to-be Gabe while volunteering at a community theater. We were married the next summer, 1981. In 1988 we took our 5 year old daughter Caitlin to NH and ME… Strawbery Banke was expanded! I bought a book on that trip that you may or may not know. It is called “The Changing Humors of Portsmouth: The Medical Biography of an American Town 1623-1983”. It has faithfully sat on a shelf but I have only leafed through it… I need to read it!
We have moved around the country following Gabe’s electrical enginerring career and have been near Tacoma, WA since 1995. Caitlin is now a Molecular Geneticist and Operations Manager for an analytical chemistry company that tests marijuana…and lives on a farm with her family in Spokane, WA. I still love to learn about history. I discovered Good Reads and ONLY have 400 books on my ‘to read’ list… mostly history works! I have succeeded in getting my step-granddaughter Piper, 13, to read all of Rush Limbaugh’s very good children’s history books. Caitlin, my son-in-law Chad, and Piper took turns reading the books out loud at bedtime. So maybe an interest in history will continue with Piper! She is currently never without a book and reads at an 11th grade level! My grandson Owen turned 1 this past weekend, so I have big ideas for him in the future… Nice to make your aquitance. Looking forward to your reviews and adding more books to my list!
